I noticed your Ring Roads page only mentions York's Outer Ring Road, whereas actually we have an Inner Ring Road too. In fact, if the council had their way, it would have all been dual carriageway, but fortunately the plan was shelved after only a small section was built (it would have seen many listed buildings being flattened). If only they'd had the same crazy idea for the A1237...
As for road numbers: it seems to be all A1036, according to www.magic.gov.uk, which is strange because the A1036 is also a radial route following the old route of the A64. An older OS map shows part of it (Nunnery Lane, Bishopgate Street, Tower Street, Paragon Street and Barbican Road up to the junction with Lawrence Street) as being the final length of the A1079, but this map dates from the 1970s, whereas Magic should be using the most up-to-date map I presume. Technically half of it multiplexes with the A19, but I'm at a loss as to which half it is. [Neil is referring to the northern half.]
Although the 'R' signs are not used, the road is signposted as the 'Inner Ring Road', and on road atlases shows up as a ring around the city centre.
